An outline of our role as a referral service, what payday credit really costs, and how to borrow without regret.

Our Role: Referrals Only
Stars For Youth does not lend money. We introduce borrowers to licensed third-party lenders and pass requests along to them. The credit decision, the terms, and the funds all come from the lender, and any agreement you sign is between you and that lender.
What Borrowing Costs
Payday loans sit at the expensive end of short-term credit and are not a lasting answer to a money problem. Each province and territory sets its own ceiling on what a lender may charge. To illustrate, a fee of $15 per $100 borrowed over two weeks works out to an annual percentage rate in the hundreds.
Look past the headline fee when you read an agreement. The figures that matter are the total dollar cost, the annual percentage rate, and the date the loan must be repaid.
Approval Is Never Promised
Sending a request does not mean an approval will follow. Every lender in our network applies its own criteria, so the outcome, the amount, and the terms are never guaranteed.
Borrow Only What You Can Repay
Take on a loan only if you expect to clear it by the due date. Anyone facing an ongoing shortfall should look at cheaper options first, including the free credit-counselling services available across Canada.
